Bufferbloat: Dark Buffers in the Internet

  • The problem Jim Gettys is describing is the same as that outlined by the Google group - since memory is cheap, people have increased their bufer queue sizes trying to eke out performance, when really they are hurting overall network performance.
  • Jim calls these "dark buffers" because you don't see them until they start to fill.
  • This was a fun read, with the metaphors and whatnot.
